"Youth of the Year" College ScholarshipMembers, ages 16-18, compete to be selected as the Boy or Girl of the Year for their clubhouse. The winners from each clubhouse compete to be the "Youth of the Year." Each youth receives a four semester scholarship to Pima Community College, valued at $2,000 as well as money for books.

Tessa has been a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs for over 4 years and has taken part in almost every program the club has to offer. Tessa is currently a senior at Tucson High School and will be the first in her family to graduate from high school.
Tessa plans on attending Pima Community College with the generous scholarship that has been awarded and would like to pursue a degree in Criminology and a career in law enforcement.

Chase has been a club member for over 4 years. A sophomore at Salpointe Catholic School, he is active in football, basketball, and baseball. Chase enjoys interacting with and serving as a role model to the young club members. Chase plans on attending the University of Arizona to pursue a degree in public services.

Kirk Molett 2008 Boy of the Year
kirk is a junior at Catalina High School, and he has been a member of the Holmes Tuttle Clubhouse for 7 years. Kirk has been on the honor roll for all his high school years. At the club, Kirk enjoys all the programs, especially the dancing program. Kirk’s career goal is to become a singer and choreographer.

Eliza Vargas2008 Girl of the YearEliza is a junior at Rincon High School and has been a member of the Holmes Tuttle Clubhouse for 5 years. Eliza is a born leader and a strong believer in helping others at the clubhouse, at school and in the community. She is responsible and is a good student, focused on her career goal of becoming a dentist.

Adrian Cruz 2008 Boy of the Year
Adrian has been a member of the Pascua Yaqui Clubhouse for seven years and has been part of the Junior leader and Keystone Club. He has participated in community-clean ups at church, fundraisers, and on the Miracle on 36th Street project. His goal is to graduate from the Police Explorers training and continue his education at Pima Community College, thanks to his Youth of the Year Scholarship.

Roxann Lozano2008 Girl of the YearRoxann has been a member of the Pascua Yaqui Clubhouse for seven years. She is the Vice President of the Junior Leader Club and Keystone Club. She has participated in many community clean-ups and fundraisers. Roxann helps around the club as much as she can, whether it is painting the building, cleaning the kitchen or assisting in club program areas. Her goal is to graduate from the University of Arizona and be a good influence on younger club members by encouraging them to make good decisions.

Sergio Serna 2008 Boy of the Year
Sergio has been a member of Roy Drachman Clubhouse for three years. Sergio can always be found in the gym. He plays in all the leagues that he is eligible for; and helps as an assistant coach for the rookie teams. Sergio is currently a senior at Sunnyside High School, and plans on attending the University of Arizona this fall and majoring in Architecture.

Ivylize Valdillez2008 Girl of the YearIvylize is currently a sophomore at Sunnyside High School. She has been a member of the Roy Drachman Clubhouse for six years. During that time she has taken part in numerous programs at the club. She represented the Cyclone Keystone Club at this year’s National Conference in Orange County, California. Her future aspirations consist of completing high school, then attending the University of Arizona and majoring in Psychology.

Jose Ochoa 2008 Boy of the Year
Jose has been a member of the Steve Daru Clubhouse for eight years. During his time as a member he has participated in programs such as Junior Leaders and Passport 2 Manhood. The Club has played an important role in helping Jose find himself as a individual. After high school, Jose plans to attend Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. His aspiration is to become a business owner and ultimately give back to the Boys & Girls Club. |
Bianka Bedoya2008 Girl of the YearBianka has been a member of the Steve Daru Clubhouse since 2000. Bianka is an Honor Student at Tucson High, and belongs to the Freshman Volleyball, Jr. Varsity Softball team. Bianka is highly involved at her high school, and she still finds time to be active at her club. Upon completing high school, Bianka would like to attend college and obtain her degree in Medicine.
